Water Leakage Reported at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple Following Recent Rainfall
Ayodhya, India – The Ram temple, a significant religious site located in Ayodhya, has experienced water leakage from the roof of its sanctum sanctorum during the first substantial rain following its inauguration to the public on January 22. Chief priest Acharya Satyendra Das raised concerns about the structural integrity of the temple and the lack of drainage facilities shortly after heavy rainfall occurred on Saturday night.
Acharya Das reported that after the heavy showers, rainwater seeped through the temple’s roof, directly affecting the area where he conducts rituals in front of the idol of Ram Lalla. He expressed his disappointment, stating, ‘It is very surprising that engineers from all over the country are constructing the Ram temple. But no one seems to have anticipated that the roof would leak when it rains.’
Urgent Repairs Directed
In response to the situation, Nripendra Mishra, chairman of the temple construction committee, visited the site to assess the damage. He instructed repairs to be made immediately to waterproof the roof, as local media reported on the incident.
Mishra also updated reporters on the overall construction progress, stating that work on the first floor is ongoing and projected to be completed by July. He expressed confidence that the entire temple construction would be wrapped up by December.
Drainage Concerns and Local Impact
The rainfall on Saturday also caused significant waterlogging in Ayodhya, particularly along the Rampath road and nearby areas. Locals reported that sewage water entered homes due to inadequate drainage systems, and several newly constructed roads began to cave in.
In light of these issues, Ayodhya Mayor Girish Pati Tripathi mentioned that damage control efforts have been initiated, deploying municipal teams to assist in clearing water from affected homes. However, attempts to obtain a comment from officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) regarding the drainage issues have been unsuccessful.
Political Reactions and Accusations of Corruption
The situation surrounding the temple and infrastructure issues led to political backlash, particularly from the Congress party. Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of corruption, claiming that both the temple’s construction and the civic facilities have fallen victim to mismanagement and financial misconduct.
Rai stated, “It has become clear from the statement of chief priest Satyendra Das that water is leaking in the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram temple built at a cost of crores due to the first rain and there is no proper drainage system.” He further criticized the BJP’s handling of development in Ayodhya, alleging that it has turned the city into a ‘hub of corruption.’
As the situation develops, residents and temple authorities are hoping for a swift resolution to the reported issues, ensuring both the sanctity of the religious site and the safety of the local infrastructure.
